COLE BEZIO BOUNCES BACK FOR CALIFORNIA SPEEDWEEK VICTORY IN LEMOORE

LEMOORE, Calif. (July 2, 2025) – El Cajon’s Cole Bezio bounced back from a flip at Plaza Park Raceway on Tuesday night to win Wednesday’s Restricted feature at Lemoore Jet Bowl in the Hoosier Tire California Speedweek. Bezio won his first career carved wooden bear trophy as one of five winners during the second night of the four race Micro Sprint event. Photo by Maxwell Patrick Imagery
Braxon Vasconcellos of Tulare started on the pole for the 25-lap race but was relegated to the second row after a jumped start. On the next attempt at a start, Vasconcellos and Lemoore’s Aubri Huckleberry collided into turn one. Vasconcellos flipped and collected multiple cars. Both Vasconcellos and Riverdale’s Mackcen Roush were unable to continue. Tulare’s Tyce Domingos was also a part of the night one crash with Bezio at Plaza Park. Domingos too showed skill with Wednesday’s comeback, driving around the outside of Illinois driver Braxton Flatt for second. Flatt then spun from third to bring out a caution on lap 14.
Cole Bezio led the final 11 laps for his first-career Speedweek victory followed by Domingos. Huckleberry nursed a wounded car back to third place followed by Manteca’s Briggs Davis and Winchester’s Rowdy Medina. Flatt recovered to finish seventh. Domingos scored fast-time in qualifying while Flatt and Bezio won the heat races.
Montana’s Cole Schroeder earned his first-career California Speedweek victory and the first for his state by claiming the 30-lap Super 600 feature. Hanford’s Keaton Martella flipped in turn four to stop the action on lap five. When racing resumed, Schroeder slid past Bakersfield’s Jett Yantis in turn four to take the lead. Schroeder led Yantis into lapped traffic at the halfway mark but earned a reprieve when Jonny Mederos rolled onto his side in turn three for a brief red flag.
Schroeder fended off a few challenges from Yantis over the second half of the event for the $1,000 win. Fresno’s TJ Smith finished third. Fresno’s Raio Salmon recovered from a heat race crash, rolling the bottom to fourth in the feature. Madera’s Jake Smith rounded out the top-five after setting fast-time earlier in the evening. Schroeder and Yantis won the heat races.
Eric Botelho of Kerman also earned a breakthrough Speedweek win, claiming the 30-lap Non-Wing main event. TJ Smith led the way at the start of the feature before Fresno’s Mattix Salmon and opening night winner Jeffrey Pahule of Brentwood challenged for the top spot. Salmon worked the inside of Smith in lapped traffic for a three-wide move into the lead on lap 16. Pahule then used the outside to pass Smith on lap 19 for second. Salmon and Pahule got tangled up in turn four to bring out the caution on lap 20 and eliminate both drivers from contention.
Smith inherited the lead but promptly lost it when he spun in turn two, then drove into the infield with an apparent mechanical problem. Botelho took control of the race before a late caution with two laps remaining. Botelho fought off Bakersfield’s Jett Yantis for the win. Yantis earned his second runner-up of the night. Quinn Thurein of Tucson, Ariz., Broedy Graham of Bakersfield, and Cameron Paul of Springville were the balance of the top-five. Botelho also led qualifying while Salmon and Pahul were the heat race victors.
Yantis paired his two runner-up finishes with an outstanding victory in the A-Class after a 25-lap feature. Yantis took over the lead from night one winner Maverick Myrick on lap 12 in lapped traffic. He dominated the second half of the feature over Myrick, Riverdale’s Brycen Roush, Jace Thurein of Tucson, Ariz., and Visalia’s Cash Lovenburg. Yantis also led qualifying action. Lovenburg, Hailey Boudakian, and 2024 Restricted champion Blayden Graham won the heat races. Washington’s Dominic Carter won the 15-lap B-Main.
Hanford’s Lee Uzzell won the Jr. Sprints California Speedweek feature at Lemoore Jet Bowl for the second consecutive season. Uzzell has had a red-hot start to Speedweek with fast-times in both events to go with his runner-up finish at Plaza Park and Wednesday’s win at Lemoore.
Plaza Park winner Logan LaVarnway, age nine, looked poised to win night number two. LaVarnway spun on the ninth lap of the 20-lap feature in turn four and had to restart at the back of the field.
Uzzell topped heat race winner Huxcen Roush of Riverdale, Nixon Soiland of Suisun City, Scottsdale, Ariz.’s Micah Porter, and LaVarnway at the finish.
The Hoosier Tire California Speedweek moves back to Visalia’s Plaza Park Raceway on Thursday night July 3 for the third round of the 2025 series. Pit gates open at 3pm with the drivers meeting at 5:15pm. Single race event registration is available in all five classes participating.
