CA SPEEDWEEK CHAMPIONS DECIDED AT LEMOORE RACEWAY

LEMOORE, CALIFORNIA (July 1, 2018) – The fourth annual California Speedweek decided its 2018 champions on Saturday night at Lemoore Raceway, with Jake Hagopian, Tyler Smith, and Dylan Bloomfield claiming the lucrative honors.  Each driver won a large wooden bear trophy and a piece of the $18,000 points fund for the $54,000 week.

No championship win was more intense than that of Hagopian in the Super 600 division.  Hagopian won both Dixon and Visalia rounds while 2015 Speedweek champion Michael Faccinto had won Delta Speedway in Stockton.  The two veterans of Micro Sprint racing traded turns throughout the final night, with Hagopian winning Bakersfield Karting Experience qualifying while both drivers won their respective heat races.  Hagopian was the highest point earner so far for the day but drew a fourth starting position just ahead of sixth starting Faccinto.

They entered the 30 lap featured separated by just one point, making the main event truly a head-to-head race with winner take all.

Joey Ancona nosed underneath pole sitter Heath Duinkerken for the lead in turn three to take the top spot on lap one.  Faccinto looked inside Hagopian early on but Hagopian dove inside to block in turn one on lap three.

Ben Worth slid in between them to nullify the battle for a moment but then he jumped the cushion in turn one on lap five.  Lapped traffic tightened the race for the lead as Ancona tried to maintain his significant lead.

Hagopian rolled the cushion through lapped traffic.  He charged past Ancona on the outside to take the lead on lap 23.

Hagopian drove to his third $1000 California Speedweek victory and the $2000 championship.  Ancona was second ahead of championship runner-up Faccinto in third.  Worth and Raio Salmon rounded out the top-five.  KJ Snow drove from 17^th to eighth to win the Hoosier Tire Hard Charger.

Non Wing saw Tyler Smith do all he needed to throughout the evening to where the feature was just a formality for the Fresno racer.  Smith jumped out to the lead with Oak Farm Vineyard fast time qualifier Brody Fuson moving up into second as well.  Madera’s Dalton Hill looked inside Mitchel Moles for third but couldn’t make anything happen and then was slid by Visalia winner James Ringo for fourth.  A crossover by Hill gave him the spot back down the backstretch on lap five.

Australian born Danny Carroll climbed up into the battle as the duo continued synchronized slidejobs up and down the race track.  Smith approached lapped traffic on lap 18 while Moles tried to claw towards Fuson for second.  Moles finally went around the outside of Fuson for second on lap 19.

Adam Kaeding and Bryce Eames got tangled up in turn four for a caution.  Fuson took a look at the rear bumper of Mitchel Moles for second while Smith pulled away.  Hill held down the fourth spot under pressure from Ringo before Ringo slid him into turn one.  The final caution of the race came on lap 23 when Troy Morris III and Dan Mognaga collided in turn two.

Tyler Smith drove on to his second win of the Speedweek – and fifth of his career – plus a commanding points lead for the $1500 championship.  Moles, Fuson, Ringo, and Hill rounded out the top-five.  Mike Ludwig went from 19^th to tenth to win the Hoosier Tire Hard Charger.  Dixon winner Chad Laughton and Ringo were second and third in the overall points.

Discovery Bay’s Dylan Bloomfield matched a pair of seconds and a pair of wins for his 2018 Restricted California Speedweek title.

Bloomfield drew the pole for the main event.  Enumclaw, WA’s Colby Thornhill moved past Bloomfield on the outside front row for the lead.  Gauge Garcia and Katey Syra were also part of an early four car breakaway.  Visalia winner Ryan Rocha anchored a busy second pack from fifth.  Lapped traffic came into play for Thornhill with 13 laps to go and evaporated his advantage on Bloomfield.  Lapped traffic went side-by-side in front of Thornhill allowing Bloomfield to attempt the outside briefly for the lead.   A red flag for an issue with Ryan Timms’ car slowed things on lap 21.

Syra went up stairs and took third from Garcia as the caution flew for Jade Avedisian slowing on the race track.  Avedisian continued on with Thornhill leading Bloomfield and Syra.  Syra continued to try the high side but Thornhill had what it took to win his first career California Speedweek feature ahead of Bloomfield, Syra, Caeden Steele, and Garcia.  The hard charging Caeden Steele again won the CSI Shocks Hard Charger, advancing from 12^th to fourth.
