TREY DANIELS PREVAILS IN BILL SCHMITT MEMORIAL FOR SUPER LATE MODELS
ANDERSON, Calif. (May 3, 2026) – Trey Daniels of Fort Bragg persevered for perhaps the biggest victory of his young racing career, prevailing in the North State Recycling Super Late Models at Shasta Speedway during the Bill Schmitt Memorial. Daniels exchanged the lead with points leader and defending champion Derek Copeland of Anderson, entertaining the large crowd on hand. Daniels remained within a car length of Copeland for multiple laps, eventually knifing his way to the inside in an attempt for the top spot on lap 98. Copeland crossed Daniels over into turn one but Daniels managed to drive back to the bottom to lead lap 99. Copeland and Daniels then collided in turn one, sending Daniels spinning and relegating both drivers to the rear of the field.
The incident thrust David Dillinger into the top spot but Daniels was undeterred. He made quick work of the field and regained the lead by lap 112. Daniels led the final 13 circuits for his first Super Late Model triumph followed by Dillinger in second. Copeland drove back to third ahead of Tracy’s Ryan Philpott, and Christopher Heim.
British, Columbia’s Jim White won both nights of competition for the SpeedTour Super Modifieds. Friday’s 35-lap feature was cut short after several incidents, including race leader Davey Hamilton, Sr. pounding the second turn wall with his left front wheel separated itself from the pink No. 98 machine. Jim Birges and Tim Skoglund rounded out the Friday podium.
2025 series champion Bobby Dalton established a new track record at Shasta in Friday time trials, darting around the .375-mile oval in 13.035 seconds at 103.56 miles per hour average.
White’s victory in Saturday’s finale was more dynamic, fending off a close and competitive challenge from Central California pilots Jim Birges and Tim Skoglund for the coveted victory. Skoglund faltered on the 30th lap, allowing Rick Brophy to drive into third and Brody Sim to nab fourth at the finish. Skoglund settled for fifth
Defending ARCA Menards Series, West champion Trevor Huddleston led wire-to-wire for the Bill Schmitt Memorial 173 victory on Saturday night. 15-year-old Cole Denton of Mississippi finished second for Jan’s Racing while the famed NAPA Chevrolet for Bill McAnally Racing was piloted by Georgia’s Mason Massey in third.
Friday winners included defending Shasta Speedway champion Scott MacLeod winning the Street Stock feature, an exciting Hornets win for Mark Felch, and a narrow last turn pass for Jeremy Doss to take the INEX Legends competition ahead of Steven Gannon.
Shasta Speedway returns to action on May 30th.
