THREE-FOR-THREE FOR DEREK COPELAND IN SHASTA SUPER LATE MODELS

ANDERSON, Calif. (June 29, 2025) – Despite challengers from across California and southern Oregon, Anderson’s Derek Copeland continued his perfect season at his home track Shasta Speedway by claiming round three of the 2025 Super Late Model season on Saturday night. Copeland is three-for-three in the 125-lap features which pay $2,000 to win, racing towards a $10,000 championship. INEX NorCal Legend Series defending champion Brandon White of Eureka won as well as victories for Stockton’s Ethan Rumsey, Happy Valley’s Scott MacLeod, and Happy Valley’s Colton Stankey. Copeland led time trials over the 15-car field of Super Late Models, then lined up sixth after the redraw. Eric Gannon of Redding jumped ahead of Fort Bragg’s Lane Anderson for the early lead. Anderson then used the outside to drive into the top spot on lap three. Brandon Barnwell spun into turn one with a mechanical failure in the rear end to bring out a caution on lap 23. Sacramento’s Eric Price, Jr. used the restart to drive past Anderson to lead lap 24. Copeland then passed Anderson for second and tracked down Price.
Copeland seized the lead on lap 33 with Anderson taking over second as well. Anderson drove onto the back bumper of Copeland before spinning in turn two for a caution on lap 35. Roseville champion Kenna Mitchell and Stockton champion JoJo Stearns raced hard for third. Mitchell slid into the back of Price into turn one, sparking a multi-car crash that sent Coquille, Oregon’s David Miller careening into the tractor tires on the track off ramp. Remarkably Miller was able to rejoin the event.
Price then spun from fifth and was clipped hard by Blocksburg’s Jerry Peterson on lap 81 in turn four to end both of their evenings.
A couple of late cautions placed Copeland and Stearns into the lead battle with 10 laps to go. Stearns made the most of his underpowered machine, staying within a car length of Copeland to the finish. Copeland held on for victory followed by Stearns in a Shasta career-best second. Miller stormed back through the pack to pass Dane Nissen of Williams for third with just three laps to go as well. David Dillinger finished fifth.
Eureka’s Brandon White won the 35-lap INEX NorCal Legend Series feature after assuming the lead with just two laps remaining. Bakersfield’s Logan Chambers led the first six circuits before being passed by opening night winner Robby Czub. Cody Winchel of Sebastopol and Tanner Reif of Henderson, Nevada worked their way inside of Czub with Winchel taking the lead on lap 17. Reif hounded Winchel throughout the second half of the event, taking the lead on lap 33.
Winchel collided with the rear of Reif twice in turns one and two, sending Reif spinning and penalizing Winchel to the rear of the pack. White assumed the lead and held it over a green-white-checkered finish. Chambers finished third followed by Trey Daniels of Fort Bragg and his older sister Kylie Daniels.
The NorCal Mini Stocks made a surprise appearance at Shasta with nine high performance, front wheel drive machines. Ethan Rumsey of Stockton claimed the 25-lap feature in a narrow battle with Barret Sugden. Lelani Sprenkel finished third followed by her father Scott and Richard Rowland.
Scott MacLeod took advantage of an issue for Tim MacLeod to go on to win the 30-lap Bomber feature over a 15-car turnout. Tim MacLeod looked to have the event in hand before slowing into turn three on lap 12 to bring out a caution. The incident thrust points leader Kyle Borden into the lead. Scott MacLeod challenged Borden before another caution flew on lap 25 for Tim MacLeod slowing yet again. Scott MacLeod stormed around Borden on the restart to make the decisive pass for the win. Borden finished second followed by Bobby Crowell, David Dillinger, and Bryan Hubert.
Colton Stankey of Happy Valley won the 25-lap Hornets feature. A prolonged caution for a multi-car crash in turn four did not affect the momentum of the young Stankey. Stankey topped Travis Root, Hue Moua, Karen MacLeod, and Lance Root at the finish.
Shasta Speedway will take an extended summer break until racing resumes on September 13th!
