NIKKO PANELLA SWEEPS WING AND NON-WING AT DELTA SPEEDWAY

STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA (April 20, 2025) – One day short of the one-year anniversary of his last Delta Speedway win in Stockton, Nikko Panella returned to victory lane with an exciting sweep of both the Super 600 and Non-Wing Micro Sprint divisions on Saturday night at the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds. The 2022 dual champion had a strong performance in round two of the 2025 championship. Panella was joined by Evan Dixon, Maya Mauldin, and Easton Wright in claiming the Easter Weekend wins. Stockton’s Vito Celli was the polesitter for the 30-lap Non-Wing feature while Panella had to work from seventh on the grid after an eight-car invert was spun.
Celli swung wide on the second attempt at the start, allowing Lucas Mauldin of Rancho Murieta to take the lead. Panella worked the highline to quickly take over the lead by the second lap. Brentwood’s Jeffrey Pahule grabbed second from Mauldin on lap 13 as well.
A caution with eight laps to go erased a 1.8 second advantage for Panella. Panella built up his advantage again over the final eight laps while fast-time qualifier Mattix Salmon of Fresno challenged for second. Salmon and Pahule raced side-by-side with Salmon taking the second spot on the final circuit. Panella topped Salmon, Pahule, Celli, and Mauldin at the finish. Caden Sarale, Mauldin, and Pahule won the heat races.
The Super 600 triumph for Panella was more straightforward, after he nabbed quick time in time trials then pulled the pole for the feature. Stockton’s Alex Panella, Nikko’s older brother, finished second after 30-laps of action for a memorable moment for the family. Multi-time champion Caden Sarale of Stockton retired from the race from the second position with mechanical issues on lap 22, handing second to Alex Panella. Fresno’s Raio Salmon finished third followed by Colton Huelsmann in fourth. Andrew Smith topped Mattix Salmon in a duel for fifth as well.
The new Stock A-Class presented 14 entries for their second points race with a 25-lap feature. Outside pole sitter Evan Dixon of Visalia sliced underneath Ceil Howe of Stratford to take the lead. Fourth starting fast-time qualifier Landon Henry followed Dixon on the bottom to take second on lap four.
Evan Dixon stormed to a comfortable 2.4 second lead at the checkered flag, followed by Henry, Howe, Lucas Mauldin, and Tracy’s Kyle Fernandez. Mauldin and Wheatland’s Cole Frerichs won the heat races.
Maya Mauldin of Rancho Murieta claimed a coveted win in the 25-lap Restricted feature from the pole position after earning fast-time in qualifying as well. Opening night winner Briggs Davis of Manteca hounded the rear of Mauldin’s machine. A caution flew on lap 19, and the battling resumed.
Mauldin and Davis raced glued together as if there was a magnet between them. Mauldin ran a mistake-free race to take the narrow victory. Davis settled for a clean and sportsmanlike second place. Brodie Copeland finished third followed by Nathan Fernandez and Connor Penix. Mauldin and Davis also split the evening’s heat races.
Easton Wright of Martinez won his first career Delta Speedway Jr. Sprints feature, topping the speedway’s youngest racers in a 20-lap contest. Samantha Dozier of Vacaville earned her second runner-up performance of the season. Opening Night winner Lucas Fenn, Santino Gonella, and Logan Fenn rounded out the top-five. Fenn, Wright, and Dozier had their share of the four heat race wins.
