SARALE NON WING WIN AT DELTA NEARLY SEALS 2019 SWEEP

STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA (September 15, 2019) – 16 year-old Caden Sarale of Stockton pushed closer towards a sweep of both the Super 600 and Non-Wing championships at Delta Speedway presented by Financial Center Credit Union on Saturday night. Sarale won the Non-Wing feature before finishing third in the Super 600 feature, extending his lead in both divisions at the 1/7th mile dirt oval.

A trio of drivers – Mitchel Moles, Tj Smith, and fast-timer Brandon Carey – opted for a bonus attempt by starting at the tail of the 30-lap Non-Wing feature. Lodi’s Chris Hinkle looked poised for a visit to victory lane of his own, leading nearly the entire distance. Cody Gray ran third throughout the first half of the feature before spinning in lapped traffic. Carey’s charge through the field went as high as fifth before he lost his right front tire for a caution flag.

Sarale worked past Colton Jones for second then turned his attention to Hinkle. On the final lap, Sarale passed Hinkle for an exciting $500 victory. Moles advanced to third, winning the bonus money for finishing within the top-five. His total tally from Joe W. Lewis Snap-On Tools and Elk Grove Ford was $1250 plus his $150 in earnings from Delta Speedway for a cool $1400 third place payday. 2018 champion Smith finished fourth ahead of Jones in fifth.

In Super 600 competition, things got off to a wild start when outside pole sitter Cody Christensen spun forcing a complete restart. The incident thrust Moles into the lead followed by 2018 champion Nikko Panella of Stockton. Panella took over the lead on lap 12 as Moles slowed into the infield. An incident on lap 19 brought out the red flag when Corey Day flipped. The fifth starting Panella maintained the lead and fended off seventh starting Raio Salmon for the $500 victory. Sarale drove from a tenth starting position to finish third. Colton Huelsmann finished fourth ahead of Chad Laughton in a rare winged start.

The Restricted championship continues to be unsettled with just one race to go with Elk Grove’s Devon Courtnier scoring win #4 on the season on Saturday night. Courtnier briefly went back-and-forth with points leader (and fast-time qualifier) Logan Trevino in lapped traffic at the halfway point. Courtnier kept the lead intact after a lap 15 restart en route to the $300 win. Trevino, Austin Wood, Jeffrey Pahule, Jr. and Gauge Garcia were the top-five finishers. Second in points Jade Avedisian finished sixth.

Jett Barnes picked up win #5 of the year driving car #55 in the Jr. Sprints 20 lap feature. Second in points Kyle Fernandez led the first half of the race before surrendering the lead to Barnes in lapped traffic. Barnes’ $200 win came ahead of Fernandez and points leader Lucas Mauldin. Maulin started ninth before moving forward to third. Colton Key and Andy Hintz rounded out the top-five.
