KING OF CALIFORNIA RETURNS TO DELTA SPEEDWAY SATURDAY

STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA (May 15, 2018) – King of California returns to Delta Speedway presented by Financial Center Credit Union on Saturday night, with another outstanding car count expected for the Micro Sprint action.  The third night of the 2018 Delta season looks to continue a strong start to the year, where the 1/7th mile dirt oval has averaged 117 cars per race.

Saturday’s features include $500 to win guaranteed for both the Super 600 and Non Wing divisions, plus $300 to win Restricted and $200 to win Jr. Sprints.  The first non-transfer from the B Main will receive a voucher towards a free race entry as well.  Delta Speedwaychampionships pay $1000 to win while the King of California is also offering a championship points fund.  This is the final weekend to register to be eligible for Delta Speedway points.

The King of California opening weekend also opened the Delta Speedway season with 129 cars in attendance on April 14th.  Delta Speedway hosted its first regular points race on May 5thwith 106 cars filling the pits.

One thing has been clear, the Non Wing division has been the overwhelming success story of the season.  Tristan Guardino won the opener then nearly pulled off another win in May before getting caught up in lapped traffic.  Tyler “TJ” Smith scored the May victory to go with a second in April in a strong start against the 61 different drivers to compete already.  Second year Non Wing driver Caden Sarale of Stockton, a former Restricted track champion, finished a narrow second place in round #2 to rank second in the standings ahead of Brent Brooks, Adam Kaeding, and Blake McGourty.  Ben Worth leads the King of California Non-Wing competition on the other hand.

Super 600 is led by Keith Day, Jr. after a strong win two weeks ago.  Alex Panella is second in the points by just one marker over his brother Nikko who was the runner-up in round #2.  Nikkoand Raio Salmon are tied for third in the points with 2017 champion Jake Andreotti in fifth.  Joey Ancona leads the Super 600 King of California standings.

The drivers ages 10-16 years old in Restricted have also presented huge fields this season and 2017 runner-up Caeden Steele has risen to the occasion.  A win and a second place finish gives him the points lead over Tulsa Shootout winner Corey Day with May 5th winner Caden Stoll in third.  Former Jr. Sprint track champion Dylan Bloomfield and Elk Grove’s Devon Courtnier make up the rest of the top-five.  Steele, Day, and Bloomfield also represent the top-three in the King of California series.

Jr. Sprints are the youngest racers at Delta Speedway and the youngest of them all is Jett Barnes, age 6, who won the season opener and led laps in the second round as well.  Barnes ranks second in the track championship behind May 5th winner Dalton Parreira.  Austin Wood, TK O’Brien, and Prunedale’s Caleb Debem round out the top-five.  Colton Key leads the Jr. Sprint King of California despite not yet getting a victory this year.

King of California competition gets started Friday at Dixon Speedway for round #5 of the 16 race series, before moving to Delta Speedway on Saturday.

For round #3 of Delta Speedway and round #6 of King of California, pit gates open at 1 p.m. with the drivers meeting at 4:30 p.m. and hot laps to follow.
